Stewarding Our Lands
Preserve Stewardship
The Wildlands Trust strives to manage its preserves according to goals that respect each property’s distinctive characteristics and needs. We seek to maintain a balance between appropriate public access and protection of natural resources, habitats and rare species under our care. Through our work, we will partner with other organizations, neighbors, volunteers, and state agencies where appropriate to accomplish our management goals. Management of our properties may include trail installation and maintenance, field restoration and mowing, prescribed fire, infrastructure management, invasive species control, and rare species monitoring.
Conservation Restriction Stewardship
In addition to preserve management, we provide additional layers of protection to privately owned and municipally held lands. The Trust conducts regular monitoring of all our conservation restrictions and works to maintain relationships with all our CR property owners and managers. As perpetual agreements between the land trust and the landowner, stewardship staff works closely with land acquisitions staff to design projects that will allow for strengthened land management relationships for the long term. |
